How to prioritise self-care for mind, body and spirit

Balancing your well-being: unlocking the art of daily self-care

Over the past 18 months or so, there has been a lot of chatter around self care. It feels like a bit of a buzz word but that certainly doesn't dim its importance.

When I think about self care I like to focus on the mind, body, and spirit. These 3 components can have very powerful effects when nurtured, remember, self care is all about making yourself feel good in ways that:

  • Are accessible to you

  • Help you identify your triggers and develop strategies to deal with them

  • Will give you a boost when you need it

With that in mind, here are a few of my favourite, daily (at least, I try to make them daily!) self care activities:

Mind

I am a big fan of the morning pages, meditation (there are various options for this, find one that works for you,) or just starting the day off with some quiet reading. The key here is not to overthink any of it. Just write down your worries that day, or get some journal prompts to get you started.

Here are five journalling prompts to try when your head feels too full:

1. How can I find more space?
2. I know these happy things are true:
3. These are things of which I can let go...
4. Calm comes when I...
5. In this moment I feel... I deserve to feel...

Body

I love to get outside in the fresh air for a walk, it helps the mind as well as the body. I am also a big fan of yoga and feel so much better for doing it. Even basic stretching is incredibly beneficial. As above, it's about find something that works for you. If you want to exercise, great, but do it because you want to, not because you feel you have to or that exercising will help burn off calories. Movement is a joy and it should make you feel joyful, accept nothing less!

Soul

I like to see this as doing something that makes my heart happy and brings me joy. So it could be a creative craft, I really enjoy embroidery, or it could be time out with a podcast or your favourite magazine. It could be all of the above on rotation!

At the end of 2022, I created "a fun list" which I am keeping/ adding to as I go along. It's something uplifting that keeps me going on the days that feel hard. Things on my fun list include: glitter, champagne, a good red lipstick, cuddles and singing. I fully encourage you to add your own fun list to your journal, a reminder that better days are coming again. What would you include?

In a world that often demands more from us than we can give, self-care has emerged as an essential lifeline. It's not just a trendy catchphrase; it's a lifeline to inner peace and resilience. By focusing on the trio of mind, body, and soul, we unlock the potential for transformative change in our lives.

Remember, self-care should be accessible, self-reflective, and rejuvenating. It's about finding solace in the simple and the sacred, in the quiet moments and the joyful movements. It's about nurturing your mind when it races, celebrating your body for all it does, and feeding your soul with the joys that make your heart sing.

Embrace the power of self-care as a daily ritual, and watch as it transforms your life one mindful, nurturing, and joyful moment at a time. Your well-being deserves nothing less.

Come and chat to me in the comments about how you prioritise self-care in your day to day life.

With love,
Laura x
